Connectbox restarts after when trying to access port forward rule

I’ve just configured port forwarding and when trying to access my external ip on the configured port, it works for the first 2 requests then it restarts and kicks everyone from the network.

@stefan1001  Strange that this problem still occurs! Can you please clarify which portforward rules you've  configured on the routerinterface?
Also make sure you choose for the UPnP function OR portforwarding rules. Using both UPnP and forwarding can cause problems.  An other thing you can try to test is the following:

  1. Log on to the modeminterface of the Connectbox
  2. Go to Advanced Settings (geavanceerd instellingen) and click on Firewall
  3. Uncheck the option IP Flood detection and Save settings.

After changing the settings test whether or not this problem still persists. Please let me know what your findings are.

Seems it only happens on first use after configuration (delayed restart?). It seems to work for now.

Good evening @stefan1001 and welcome to the Community,

Very good that you figured out how to configure port forwarding on the Ziggo modem. In case you've further questions in regards to port forwarding I recommend you to have a look at this page
It's is possible that the modem has restarted itself after you've changed and saved the new settings on the router interface from the modem. This clarifies the delayed restart you described.

Please let me know in case you require further assistance.

Kind regards,

Paul

Unfortunately today I had another restart when I tried to access the port externally.
Again if I try to access a second time after the restart all seems to work fine.

Are there any places to look for the router logs? think there must be something causing it to panic and restart (maybe old age, has almost 4 years in my custody).

Unrelated but I found it interesting that I already have some port forwarding rules set in the router that I didn’t set-up, would it be possible to have them from previous tenants of the connect box?

That is quite weird, @stefan1001 . Considering that the modems are either new or completely refurbished, it's impossible that settings from previous tenants are saved. All in all, I've never before heard of an issue like this. I find it especially curious that the modem seems to reset before you've actually changed any of the settings.

Apart from this anomaly, once you've changed the settings; does it work the way it's supposed to?

Most of the times it works fine, we do have some occasional internet problems, but as I don’t remember seeing the wifi go down, I assume it’s probably just the internet in our area.

To reproduce the problem:

  1. set port forward rule (1 port → 1 local ip) using the guide you shared
  2. optionally wait a while (I’ve noticed all works fine until I try to access the port via the external ip).
  3. try accessing the port (a http page )

What I observed (as a developer):

  1. The page initially connects, so do the following few requests for assets (images, js, etc), e.g. the favicon loads but lags when getting the following requests.
  2. One minute after I see pings to the router timeout, then the wifi disconnects.
  3. Once back online (~1-2 min later), I can access the port with no problem.
  4. When I accessed the day after, with no further changes to ports, I experienced the same issue, with the request after the restart working as usual.

As said, any logs would help greatly to figure out what is going on.

I made a backup of the router config, just in case it’s needed, if you wish I can share more details about the config privately.

It restarted again today on first access.

@Paul Ziggo  Thanx!

The `UPnP function` was enabled, disabled it and it seems all works fine now.
As that fixed it, I didn’t touch the flood detection flag.

Now that the connection doesn’t restart, it seems to start to lag after a while, getting timeouts, maybe a few days of having the connection open is part of the cause. If I reconnect all seems to be working fine. Any idea what could be causing that?

Hi @stefan1001, great to hear the first thing is fixed now :-)

About the lag; could try to uncheck the IP Flood detection this time and see if that makes any difference?

I’ll do that as soon as I see it having issues again. So far all seems good.
