Wifi channel keeps changing in manual mode.

Hi,

After selecting channel 120 on 5GHz on my gigabox, after a few days (1 - 7 days), my WiFi channel changes back to either channel 36 or 40.

I have selected manual channel, and have disabled Smart Wifi.

This is quite annoying. Channel 120 is free - no one else nearby uses it. 36 and 40 are quite busy. Can anyone tell me how to stop this from happening?

Ray

The 5 GHz radio is likely encountering DFS events on channel 120 and therefore switches to a non-DFS channel to comply with regulations. You should be able to verify this using the modem's event log.

This is very useful, thanks! I'll try another free channel and keep an eye on the logs. I don't seem to have a modem log. The best I have is Tools -> Network Status -> Network Log. I'll keep an eye on that.

The 'Network Log' should contain previously occurred DFS events.

I don't see any mention of DFS or channel changing in the log. Very strange 😕

The Connect Box Giga's event log doesn't always display recent events and might actually not display DFS events altogether, contrary to the 'regular' Connect Box.

Could you try the 5 GHz settings below?

  • Channel: 58
  • Channel Width: 20/40/80 MHz
  • Mode: 802.11n/ac

I have channel 56 and channel 60, but no 58. I switched it to 128 as that channel doesn't seem to be getting used by anyone. I'll try 56 / 60 if 128 also switches back to 36/40.

Sounds good, let me know if you experience any subsequent channel switching.

Hi @rayhunter and welcome to the Ziggo Community! I see you've already received some great tips from @tobiastheebe. I was curious how things are going now. Did you experience the channel switching again?
