Internet unstable

This has been happening off and on for a long time, but in the last two weeks, it has gotten very bad. As I am working during the day, I will lose most or all internet connectivity for a few minutes before it recovers. When this happens, I try to run speed test and it fails or shows 0.1 to 1.x Mbps. When this happens, it affects all of the computers and devices connected to my wifi. It will usually correct itself within a couple of minutes, but there have been times when I have had to restart the modem for it to start working again. In these cases, it can take 15 to 20 minutes before the modem connection becomes stable again.

Things are definitely better. I don't have the router in the utility closet because then I have no internet at all even with the Smart Wifi pods. The system no longer cuts out multiple times a day, so it is solved well enough for now.

Could you post one or more pictures of AOP (main socket inside utility closet ('meterkast') or in living room) and cables, plus splitter(s) and signal amplifier, as applicable?

Additionally, could you post the modem’s downstream/upstream data? Instructions can be found here.

Downstream signal exhibits some noise.

Because the AOP is located inside the meterkast, that's where the modem should be installed. The current modem location/connection method is incorrect. The socket in the living room is outdated and only to be used for connecting a TV/decoder. Please remove the splitter from this socket, it is redundant.

Do you have TVs connected using coax? If not, connect the modem directly to the AOP i.e. without a splitter.

Could you post another picture of the AOP?

I think this is the image you need. After I took the picture I removed the splitter and attached the cable directly to this box. To answer your TV question, there are no TVs currently connected to the cables.

The AOP is fully up-to-date. The splitter (POA 01-UPC) was one with a design flaw, the plastic shell sometimes causes problems as it prevents the splitters from making proper contact with the AOP.

If I understand correctly, you have now moved the modem to the meter closet and connected it directly to the AOP?

Could you post the downstream/upstream data once again?

I moved the modem into the utility closet and directly connected to the AOP, but then I had no wifi anywhere in the house. I moved it back to where it was but simplified the connection.

Previously the connection was:
AOP -> splitter -> powered splitter -> wall port -> spitter -> modem.
I am not connected with:
AOP -> powered splitter -> wall port -> modem.
So fewer jumps and spits. I do want to connect a TV via the powered splitter, so I want to leave that there for now in the hopes this resolved the issue.

Unfortunately, moving the modem to the meter closet often results in worse WiFi coverage and would require a separate router/AP to comply with the recommended connection method. I understand that you'd like to retain the ability to connect a TV/decoder.

The 'powered splitter' is an amplifier which is supplying the modem with too much power. Recommended DS power is <10 dBmV. In addition, the signal now exhibits considerable noise. Please move the living room cable to the lowest amplification/position (0 dB) on the amplifier.

I recommended disconnecting inactive cables at the amplifier and installing termination resistors on these connectors.

Goedemorgen,

I tried to move the cable (to the wall port) from the amplifier directly to the AOP, but the cable has the termination resistors and the AOP does not. I was going to do this as a test. If I can find one around, I'll give this a try. About 12 hours ago I connected the wall port to the 0 dB port on the amplifier and restarted the modem.   Here are the number from this morning. I'll give this a try today and report back if the problem is resolved or if it continues.

You are correct about not being able to connect the living room cable directly to the AOP, you would need an IEC female to F female adapter plug for that.

However, signal is showing significant improvement now that the living room is connected to the amplifier's 0 dB output.

I was hopeful that this would resolve the problem, but it has not. I was not online a lot Thursday and Friday to monitor, but this morning (Sunday) has been more of the same. In addition to the lost internet access, the wifi is now dropping all devices and taking 15 - 20 minutes to recover. I cannot log into the box because I am getting that "Someone else is currently logged into the settings page" error even though I have not connected since yesterday.

The error message indicates that the previous session was not logged out from. Could you reboot the modem and post the event log ('Network Log' tab)?

The amplifier might still be causing problems and downstream power was still slightly too high. The adapter plug that I mentioned (to connect the living room directly to the AOP) might be able to solve the stability problems.

The recommended connection method is as follows: AOP to splitter, splitter to modem and amplifier. One or more access points are required for expanding WiFi coverage, for example SmartWifi pods.

Does that explain all the wifi dropping at one? I did install the smart wi-fi pods on Friday. This has improved connectivity in the other parts of the house.

Since you are already using the SmartWifi pods, you can use the recommended connection method as described in my previous reply.

Looks like the wifi went down due to a reboot. I didn't do this and I am the only one in the house at the moment.

Downstream/upstream data are looking good. Please post the event log ('Network Log' tab).

Event log is showing major improvement as well, only problem was an instance of RCS Partial Service at 06/11/2021 13:06:21.

Please move the modem to the meter closet and connect it as recommended by Ziggo. Connect one of the POA 01-UPC splitters (plastic case removed) to the AOP. Then connect modem and amplifier to the splitter. This will result in further signal improvement.

Finally, as I mentioned earlier, I recommend installing termination resistors on the amplifier outputs. If you'd like to install a TV/decoder at some point in the future, simply remove the resistor and reconnect the respective cable.
