My transfer to Giga finally happened over the weekend, but since then I’ve experienced nothing but errors.  In the last 24 hours alone my internet has dropped three times.  Ive been booted out of an Xbox session, in the middle of watching a TV replay I was kicked out and WiFi just drops completely.  I’m now also regularly getting lost signal on my Mediabox Next

My setup is identical to when before I had Giga.  Arris modem/router in the meterkast, with the supplied 1.5m coax cable to the AOP, which was new a couple of years ago.  I have rebooted the Connectbox, but still getting issues.

Could you take a picture of the main connection and what is connected to it?

for most people this could be found in the meter cupboard

Thanks for the reply.  The AOP is good and was checked prior to the Giga install :)  I can’t upload a picture at the moment unfortunately as it’s so slow even a 2Mb pic is hasn’t uploaded after several minutes :(

have you tried resetting your modem to factory settings?

Press and hold the reset button on the back for 15 seconds with a needle or something else.

You mean the wifi goes out on the next?

Or the TV signal?

A MIMO event is one indicator that the modem restarts.

I've called in for the help of a moderator.

The wifi signal.  I can watch TV, but every so often the red light on the front of the Next light up and I am no longer able to eg watch replays.  The Xbox, soundbar and Sonos also lose wifi connection.  This has only started happening since my internet was upgraded to Giga.  I don’t recall it ever happening before for the past three years but now it’s a multiple daily event

I have rebooted the modem from within the menu but don’t think I’ve reset set back to factory settings, just restarted.  I can try that too, but later as my kids are in the middle of university classes!

One other thing - it strangely seems to happen only in the evenings.  During the day the connection is relatively stable

What is the download speed during the day?

It fluctuates wildly.  The maximum I’ve gotten is 487 but ten minutes later it can drop to below 100.  Wifi is extremely variable.  Cabled is a little more complicated to assess as I can only do that with a work laptop that has permanent vpn.

Did you seperate the 2.4 and 5ghz network?

You could do that in your modem by changing the 5ghz network name.

Login on your modem: http://192.168.178.1

Go to geavanceerde instellingen (advanced settings)

Click on draadloos (wireless)

Click on beveiliging (security)

Change your 5ghz network name.

After 10 minutes the 5ghz network becomes visible.

Connect all 5ghz compatible devices to the 5ghz network.

stranger and stranger.  I went into the settings and found it’s disabled 2.4Ghz, which was definitely not me.  I’m pretty sure some of my equipment can’t use 5Ghz so this is a bit random

That is strange…

Can you turn on 2.4 ghz and follow the instructions above?

No!  .  I think we have have found one problem at least.  I have connected multiple devices to the 5Ghz network.  Went into the Next and it had lost connection.  It can’t find the 5Ghz network (I’m assuming it only operates on 2.4Ghz?) OR the 2.4Ghz one.  Went into the modem settings and it has disabled the 2.4Ghz network again.  Any ideas why it would do that?

That is strange😅

The next should be able to operate on 5ghz.

Are you able to wire your Next?

Reputatie 1

That is strange😅

Did you save your settings?

yes, all saved.  Made sure of that before changing the 5GHz SSID.  I’ve re-initialised the 2.4Ghz again but something weird is happening behind the scenes

Hmm weird…

Does 5ghz work on other devices?

I advice you to wait for a ziggo moderator for now..

Yes, 5Ghz appears to be working on other devices.  And now the 5Ghz network does show up on the Next so have initialised that there, too.  Which is a good thing because on going back in the settings again my Connectbox has once again disabled the 2.4Ghz signal…

I do have some 2.4Ghz devices, so not quite sure what to do here

question: if I reset to factory settings now I guess my new 5Ghz SSID will disappear?
