[English] Fritzbox 7590 setup without Connectbox

Sorry for my English.

I switched to Ziggo Internet-only subscription today and set up my Connectbox modem. The connection was a bit flaky at first, it was dropping every 30 seconds but I think it is now resolved by itself :)  I have a stable connection, very satisfied with the result.

Now, I 'd like to know if I can use my Fritzbox 7590 directly without connecting to Connectbox first?

Fritzbox doesn 't come with a coaxia l cable, it only has DSL , but I was already using this modem with my previous provider without issues.

When I try to set it up, I chose “Other internet service provider ” and select Ziggo and it asks me for “username / password ”. Where can I obtain these?

Thank you!

No, you can’t.

However you can make LAN-1 a full WAN-port (advanced settings) and set it to automatically receive an IP-address (by DHCP). Don’t select the option ware is asked for a password.

Wen that's all done, you can consider to let the Connectbox set in to bridge mode.

Thank you @DennyW for your answer.

Is there a manual on setting up Connectbox in bridge mode? I know how to set up Fritzbox, but not sure about Connectbox. I can also read in Dutch by the way.

@DennyW Thank you!

That’s a bummer actually. I thought it is as easy as switching a setting on Connectbox. I looked it up on the modem settings, but couldn’t find anything remotely resembles bridge/route mode.

I have a lot of things connected with Fritzbox, either I need the user/pass and connect directly via the DSL line or use the Connectbox in bridge mode.

I couldn’t find any contact information, this forum is the only place I can contact Ziggo directly.

I don’t want to write down my address in a public forum. Can someone from customer service call me?

Those two (just those two) profile settings aren't public (huisnummer en postcode); they are only visible for Ziggo moderators.

To contact Ziggo you can chat of call or even mail (Contactformulier). Please see this LINK (and scroll down).

Bridge mode is optional. Only necessary if you need port forwarding or when you're a gamer. If not, daisy chaining to full routers also function well.

**EDIT**

When u use daisy chain routers, you get two separate subnets, so you better not use the rest of the Connecbox's LAN of or its Wifi.

Thank you @DennyW

I wrote down my address details in my profile. Hopefully someone will see them.

The chat link on that link is not clickable. I thought, this forum is the chat :) Is there any other tool that I can use to contact customer service? I tried to use the contact form on that link, but it asks me for a client number (which should be written down in bill)

I’ve just installed it today and I would like to evaluate ASAP whether Ziggo is the right choice for me or not. If it’s not working with Fritzbox modems, I will terminate my subscription.

I tried to connect Fritzbox via the WLAN port directly. I can connect to internet through it, but Fritzbox settings are not accessible anymore, when I hit 192.168.78.1 it goes directly to Connectbox settings. That’s not what I want. Even if Ziggo doesn’t provide DSL user/pass I want Connectbox to turn off all features it has, WiFi, Firewall, all of them, it just should act as a router to my Fritzbox modem. Otherwise it’s not secure.

Thanks a lot. Hopefully I can fix this issue, this doesn’t sound like a big deal to me. I terminated my KPN subscription just a day ago and I want to find a provider in the NL that can provide support for this type of modems.

Chat isn't clickable; you have to wait and be pasiant.

When daisy chaining routers you have to make sore both subnets don’t use the same subnet to prevent conflicts. The Connectbox uses (default) the 192.168.178.0/24 subnet, so Fritzbox can’t use it.

Its normal behavor that when you’r on the Connecbox’s subnet (LAN) or the Fritzbox’s WAN that your can’t reach the Fritzbox's LAN.

@DennyW

Thank you.

On the contact page I only see the following screen:

https://www.ziggo.nl/klantenservice/contact

There’s a link under that for emailing, But it asks for my client number and I don’t know my client number, Ziggo doesn’t provide the client number when you subscribed for the first time. As I understand it’s only written down on the bill you receive, I haven’t received a bill yet.

I was able to connect Fritzbox to internet through Connectbox, but I don’t want Connectbox to have its own WiFi network or operate things in a separate subnet. I have my firewall settings in Fritzbox already, I only need someone to provide me the internet :)

Does Ziggo offer other types of modems that work with Fritzbox? Can I replace Connectbox with them?

Previously I said WAN/LAN-1 to LAN-1 works, but I don’t think that’s the case as well.

As I see, both devices are trying to assign 192.168.178.1 to themselves. There’s no separate subnet.

If I connect to that IP from my browser (regardless of the WiFi network I’m at), it is either Ziggo dashboard or Fritzbox dashboard randomly.

That situation also makes Fritzbox keeps disconnecting, I can only stay on its WiFi network for 5 minutes.

I made some progress.

(Just to give an update in case anybody runs into the same issue.)

Initially, I tried to set it up using the Wizard. But it always stuck on the last step. I then manually switched to WAN (Internet > Account information)  and indeed it assigned a different IP address to Fritzbox now (192.168.188.1)

So I can connect both user interfaces and Fritzbox operating as normal, perfect!

The only thing I need to figure out is whether if it is possible to completely turn off WiFi on my Connectbox. Then we’re good to go :)
