Hi all,
I just have my modem on Bridge as im using a super fast router, once we put it on bridge mode i have no IPV6 anymore, why ziggo does that? And what are you guys doing to fix the problem?
Thanks
Bridge Mode IPV6 ? HOW?
Maybe you could try to daisy chain your router with the Ziggo Modem (in router mode), so your router can receive a full IPv6 subnet by PD. This in conjunction with assigning your router as a DMZ-host for IPv4 use.
If you have a single router you can terminate IPv6, your local-link subnet would suffice for routing?
That’s definitely NOT how IPv6 is supposed to work. Every device should have an internet routable IPv6 address on its interface.
True, that would suggest NAT routing, and that is not an official part of IPv6. Since IP is not really a well defined network architecture, but more of a huge hobby project, there are IPv6 NAT projects, heaven forbid.

It boils down to incompetence. Everyone would agree that even with bridge mode a single IPv6 must be able to be delivered through router advertisement or DHCPv6. Now not receiving a subnet automatically is something I do understand.
Ziggo states that they allow you to use your own router via bridge mode, but never tells you they will criple the ability to use IPv6 on their network natively.
Workarounds? You could receive IPv6 over a tunnel, such as Hurricane Electric.
I completeley agree with

Yep, that's Ziggo in all of its glory (sigh).
I have a IPv6 over IPv4 tunnel to Hurricane Electric. My router sets up the tunnel, and the router will even configure the tunnel at Hurricane Electric when the dynamic IPv4 WAN address of the router changes.
The tunnel results in a full functional IPv6 network on your LAN, the only problem is that it is not recognized as a Ziggo network or a Dutch network. Under circumstances that can cause a problem. The tunnel is free as well, and fast.

- Link local addresses are non-routable by definition.
- ULA addresses are routable, but only on your local network. You can never access the internet with them.
- If you want to access the internet with some host (your PC), it needs a global IPv6 address.

Yeah seems like we are all stuck with this DS-lite ipv6 stuff...too bad.
Thanks anyways.
With DS-Lite you do not have a global IPv4 address, it uses carrier-grade NAT. You do have global Pv6 addresses.
With Ziggo IPv4-only, plus an IPv6 over IPv4 tunnel, you will have global IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.
You can make your own choice.
I noticed that skinkie’s reply has been designated as the best reply. However it assumes that there is something like IPv6 NAT, and that definitely has not been implemented on any router you can buy.
So it can be very confusing for people to read this as the best reply, while at the same time this set up can not exist.

Your router does not run Linux?
