Hi I started using the horizon box just about a month ago. Ziggo did the install but this box is giving me grey hair. The 5gHz wifi will work for a few days then stop working and I have to do a re-setup then it will work for a few days then same thing. It is getting to a point where I am thinking of getting another company to supply my internet?

Hi @Selfish1, I’m personally not a fan of this setup because it seems to stretch the Mediabox XL to its limits. I'd rather have a seperate wifi-modem for the internet/telephony next to the Mediabox XL.

Something to consider. It also depends on the location of the main cable outlet (where our cable enters your house), where the modem would have to be placed. If that's far away and isolated from the rest of the house, then sufficient wifi coverage might be a challenge.

You can contact customer service if you decide to give the seperate modem a try. Or you can respond here and one of us moderators will process your request, whichever you prefer.

If I understand correctly your Horizon device functions as both modem/router and mediabox. Because its doing everything together this can become problematic depending on the house you live in.

There is a possibility to change your modem setting of the device to make it work more consistently. This can be done by logging in to your modem from a any device that can acces the internet, like a computer for example. If you dont know how to do this, I advice you to call or chat with the customer service. They can change your wifi channels and separate your 2.4 ghz from your 5ghz network, if not already done. This will most certainly make your wifi better and more stabel.

There might be a possibility to get a separate modem and mediabox. This wil 100% work better then a modem and mediabox in one device like you have now, but i’m not sure really if this is possible. If possible ask the get 2 separate devices to function as modem and mediabox.

Hi @Mark Ziggo, Thank u for the reply. I have the horizon in the centre of my house I do not have problems with the wifi signal to the phones etc. its the actual signal that drops completely away, and I found that if I connect anything to the horizon box via the Ethernet connector then the signal drops nearly immediately. When the ziggo installer was here he said that I should ask for a next device but I was told that I do not qualify for this. So what do u suggest I do? Keep the horizon device and connect an external wifi access point? Or get a completely different device?

Hey @Selfish1 . I understand your frustration completely. And Mark and I would love to help.
You say the Horizon is in the center of your house. What's the length of the cable you used to install the Horizon? And is it connected to the first connection point of Ziggo in your house?

If you'd like (and i reccomend this) we can sent you a Ziggo modemrouter. This way the Horizon will act as a mediabox only for your TV service and the modemrouter will work for your internet.

@Lycke Ziggo Thank u for the reply. The ziggo horizon is connected to the first connection point in my house. The length of the cable from the connection point to the device is 5 m. What would the cost be for the separate modemrouter?

There will be no costs. I can send this to you for free, if you'd like :-).

@Lycke Ziggo  Thank u very much. yes please could u send this to me.

Regards

George
